Uniform
SHARON GILL SCHOOL OF DANCE
UNIFORM LIST
*New pupils do not have to commit to uniform straight away. We politely suggest a 3-4 weeks settling in period before purchasing unifom*

Please see your class teacher for where to buy your uniform.

Dress Code. Why does it matter?
When taking a dance class in any subject, a specific outifit, leotard, tights or colour scheme is used as it is very important the teacher can see the lines the body is making. We as teachers, need to notice hip alignment, straight knees, correct posture etc. so as to pick up on any potential injury or displacement that may cause injury.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD SOCKS ALONE BE WORN AS FOOTWEAR.

Teachers should not be distracted by colours, straps, baggy clothes, flapping hair and other random things in addition.
When a teacher looks across a room it is SO much easier to catch things and correct things when there is a uniform look to all dancers.

Dancers are in class to learn, respect others (adults and peers), gain discipline, learn life skills, keep fit both, physically and mentally and this should be set from an early age. We, as dance teachers pride ourselves on helping to teach these attributes in our pupils ensuring coachable children turn into well rounded and employable young adults. There is a lot more to taking a dance class than simply dancing!

Parents: Do not let kids push these boundaries. You are paying for quality instruction with progress you and the teachers can measure. Partner with the teacher by installing respect, dress code, footwear and hair requirements that are part of your child’s learning and discipline growing up.

Please check under the required dance section and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

*Please note where multiple classes are being taken on any one day and no time to change, then same uniform can be worn for each class. Where there is a break/time to change then where possible, children can change outfit appropriate for the class they are about to participate in*
